#BOOKMADNESS2017 // Behold! Blue Sargent from THE RAVEN CYCLE by Maggie Stiefvater ~ vote here!

img_4529Blue Sargent is one of my favorite characters in literature. She stars in the absolutely
fantastic series, The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater and provides a unique roles in the series as a whole. This year I’m participating in book Madness hosted by the Amazing Maggie Martin and basically, I’m here to convince you why Blue Sargent is the best character ever out of all the other people with their competing character. At the bottom of this post their will be a giant link that say VOTE, click it and…well VOTE! Hopefully you’ll vote for me, it would make me very happy!

Anyway, here we go! Here are some reason why Blue Sargent is my favorite character and why you should vote for her!

Reason #1: Independent!

Blue Sargent is super independent! She doesn’t need a man to fight her battles. I’ll be

honest, ever since I started reading The Raven Boys I kind of wanted to grow up to be her because she was just that cool.

Reason #2: EXPRESSES HERSELF!

Most teenagers (like me) fall under the category of being afraid to express themselves fearful of being judged. In The Raven Boys, Maggie Stiefvater paints our main character, Blue Sargent in such a way that demonstrates her own true self through her clothing, hair and even attitude. This provides a good role model for young teens like me and perhaps even young adults in their early twenties who continue to struggle to be their true selves in their day to day life

Reason #3: Not Half Assed and Written Like a Person

No not every character out there has mousy brown hair, “ugly” freckles, brown eyes, a sarcastic attitude and thinks they are ugly. Blue Sargent surely isn’t this way! Maggie Stiefvater did such a good job writing Blue Sargent she low key falls off the page when you’re reading The Raven Cycle. I can always tell when a character is well written because by the end of reading the book, I begin to wonder what happened to that character next, what were they thinking and how they feel right now even. When a character is well written I begin to CARE ABOUT THEM TO SUCH A STRONG LEVEL AND THEY DON’T EVEN EXIST. Anyway, Blue Sargent is amazing because she demonstrates an attitude and such well thought out characterization that she is super easy to relate to!

Reason #4: Not a Hero

Surprise people! Blue Sargent is the very opposite of a hero. She most certainly isn’t a “Celaena Sardothien” or any other character who is clearly spotlighted as the hero in the typical YA novel. In fact, she is the exact opposite of that. She’s poor. She has no dad. She lives in a house with a bunch of psychic women. While she does follow the trope of being prophesied to

be something bigger and greater…ahem…killing her true love with a kiss…she isn’t out to find her true love and she pretty much ignores her. Plus, throughout the series it isn’t like she starts learning Kung Fu in a month like a ninja from Feudal Japan and she doesn’t gain any magical super powers besides the ones she’s always had as a psychic to amplify other psychics.

Reason #5: ORIGINALLLLLLLL

Okay, I think I’ve made it pretty clear so far that Blue Sargent is original. Have I not? Well Reason #5 is mainly for me to just emphasize that even more. Everything about her is unlike any other character I’ve read about before. SHE IS LITERALLY ONE OF A KIND BECAUSE MAGGIE IS REALLY THAT GREAT. There aren’t any other characters in the literary world, at least that I’ve read about that share much with Blue Sargent. I’ve seen too many copies of Celaena Sardothien’s out there, but none of Blue.

Reason #6: She’s Weird

I’m weird. Being weird is cool and Blue Sargent is weird. But she is a cool weird. She isn’t one of those characters who THINKS they are weird but actually isn’t. BLUE SARGENT IS THE WEIRDEST PERSON EVER. But that is just what makes her so great.

To conclude, it is without a doubt that Blue Sargent, as weird as she may be, her original character traits make her a memorable character to the reader of the story. Not to mention, while Blue is a lesser character in YA, she still stands out. She is incredibly easy to relate to and a great role model for lots of teens and preteens.

And that is why you should vote for Blue Sargent.
